Late-night heavy rainfall on Friday led to a significant landslide at Ghāri near Kakira on the Lahdu–Tunuhatti route. At approximately 11 PM, a massive boulder fell onto the road, completely obstructing traffic.

As a result, vehicles were stranded on either side, leaving passengers—particularly those on night buses—trapped overnight. The Public Works Department (PWD) responded early the next morning, deploying two JCB machines along with a full crew to clear the blockage. The size of the rock made it a challenging task, taking around three to three-and-a-half hours to remove.

By 10:30 AM, the boulder was successfully pushed down the slope, allowing the road to reopen for both light and heavy vehicles. Commuters who had been stuck overnight expressed their relief as traffic resumed.

This incident underscores the susceptibility of mountain roads during the monsoon season, where unexpected landslides can lead to significant disruptions and hazards for travelers.
