Violent Clash in Pokalagi Village
Dhubri, June 9: A serious conflict erupted in Pokalagi village, located in the Tamarhat region of Dhubri district, on Saturday, resulting in injuries to over 20 people, including numerous women. The altercation was sparked by a land ownership dispute involving a four-bigha plot.
As per police reports, the contested land has been held by the legal heirs of Sanowar Hussain Sheikh for nearly fifty years. However, tensions flared early Saturday when a faction led by Hasem Ali, the grandson of the deceased Ramzan Ali, allegedly tried to seize the land by force. This action led to a violent clash between the two groups.
Witnesses claimed that hired assailants from West Bengal were brought in to aid the attack. One side has also accused the other of using firearms during the skirmish, with gunfire reported, although no injuries from bullets have been confirmed.
The situation quickly escalated into a chaotic brawl, leaving more than 20 individuals with serious injuries. Among those hurt, Khairul Badsha and Nazma Khatun are said to be in critical condition. The Tamarhat police responded swiftly to the scene and managed to restore order.
Initially, all injured individuals received treatment at the Tamarhat Primary Health Centre before being transferred to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for further care.
An investigation is underway, and police anticipate making arrests. The atmosphere in the area remains tense, with authorities closely monitoring developments to avert any further violence.
