Lakshya Sen Exits the Tournament
In a disappointing turn of events, Lakshya Sen from India was eliminated from the Malaysia Open 2026 badminton tournament. He faced off against Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in the men's singles pre-quarterfinals held at the Stadium Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Ranked 13th in the world, Sen lost the match with scores of 22-20, 21-15 after 53 minutes of play. The 24-year-old Indian player started strong, leading 11-9 at the break and even had four game points in the first game. However, Lee Cheuk Yiu rallied back, scoring six consecutive points to clinch the first game in a tie-break. Sen struggled to regain his momentum and lost the second game as well.
This match marked Lakshya Sen's third defeat in five encounters against Lee Cheuk Yiu.
Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag Advance
Earlier in the day, India's PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, along with the men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, successfully moved into the quarterfinals.
