Balaji's Insights on KKR's Batting Order

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) season approaches, former Indian fast bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji has emphasized that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane should bat no lower than the third position. He has proposed a dynamic top-four lineup for the three-time champions.

KKR will kick off their campaign against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29 in Mumbai. Speculation surrounds the team's top-order composition, featuring potential openers like Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Sunil Narine, Tim Seifert, and Finn Allen. Notably, Cameron Green, a significant acquisition for KKR, has primarily excelled as a number four batter for Australia, amassing 347 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 162.14.

Balaji's Recommended Top-Four Lineup

During an appearance on JioHotstar's 'Game Plan - Know Your Team', Balaji outlined his preferred top four for KKR, which includes New Zealand duo Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, alongside Rahane and Cameron Green. He stated, "I believe KKR's skipper Ajinkya Rahane should always bat in the top order, ideally at number three. His performance at CSK in that position has been remarkable, and it would benefit both him and KKR. Cameron Green can slot in at number four, allowing him time to acclimatize before attacking the bowlers. Thus, a top four of Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane, and Cameron Green is optimal."

Expectations for KKR's Top Order

Balaji pointed out that KKR's top order must elevate their game this season, especially after not retaining key players like Phil Salt and former captain Shreyas Iyer. He remarked, "Someone needs to step up now, possibly Cameron Green or Finn Allen. Additionally, young talent Angkrish Raghuvanshi is ready to make an impact. If they perform well, KKR could gain significant momentum, making their performance a key aspect to watch this season."
