Kumar Vishwas Urges Indian Government to Address Violence Against Minorities in Bangladesh
Call for Action on Minority Violence
On Monday, renowned poet Kumar Vishwas urged the Indian government to take serious note of the violence against minorities occurring in Bangladesh, describing the situation as deeply tragic. He emphasized that the government should consider this issue and called for global attention to be drawn to it. Vishwas pointed out that while some individuals express strong opposition to murders committed by unknown assailants, they remain silent when it comes to violence against minorities in neighboring countries. According to him, this silence reveals a clear "double standard" among such individuals.
A Plea for Awareness
Speaking to reporters, Vishwas expressed his sorrow over the incidents and insisted that the Indian government must take a firm stance. He urged those who often create a ruckus over various events to reflect on their reactions. He questioned why they involve the Indian government in matters that do not concern it while remaining silent when innocent minority communities are brutally attacked. He hopes that the world will pay attention to these injustices.
Recent Incidents of Violence
Vishwas's comments come in response to the recent murders of Amrit Mandal and Dipu Chandra Das amid ongoing violence in Bangladesh. Reports from December 25 indicated that a Hindu youth named Amrit Mandal was beaten to death by a mob in the village of Hosendanga, located in the Kalimohor union of the Pangsha sub-district, over allegations of extortion. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and managed to rescue another individual in critical condition. Mandal's murder followed the brutal killing and burning of another Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, in the Mymensingh district.
Details of Dipu Chandra Das's Death
Dipu Chandra Das, who worked in a textile factory, was reportedly beaten to death by a mob over accusations of blasphemy, with his body later hung and set on fire on December 18. According to a report from a local media outlet, an official from the factory informed the Bhairab police that a group of workers attacked Dipu inside the factory, alleging that he made derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a Facebook post.
