Krunal Pandya's Unusual Dismissal Highlights RCB's Defeat Against SRH in IPL 2025

Krunal Pandya's Bizarre Dismissal

In a surprising turn of events during the IPL 2025 match on May 23, all-rounder Krunal Pandya, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), faced an unusual dismissal against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. While chasing a daunting target, RCB found themselves needing 46 runs from just 8 balls after Pandya inadvertently hit his stumps while attempting to play a wide yorker.

This peculiar incident unfolded in the 19th over of RCB's innings. SRH's captain, Pat Cummins, bowled a well-placed wide yorker that was out of Pandya's reach. In his effort to create space, Pandya lost his balance and accidentally knocked over the stumps, finishing with 8 runs off 6 balls. This marked Cummins' second wicket of the over, having already dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Cummins concluded his spell with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 28 runs in four overs.

SRH's Dominant Performance

SRH showcased a strong all-round performance, securing a 42-run victory and effectively ending RCB's chances of making it to the playoffs with a top-two finish. Batting first, SRH posted a formidable total of 231 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. The opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, set the tone with aggressive scores of 34 off 17 balls and 17 off 10 balls, respectively. Ishan Kishan was the standout performer, scoring an impressive 94 not out off 48 balls, which included five sixes and seven fours. Contributions from Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 26 off 9 and 24 off 13, along with Cummins and Abhinav Manohar's scores of 13 not out off 6 and 12 off 11, bolstered the innings.

RCB's Struggle in Response

Romario Shepherd from RCB had a notable performance, taking 2 wickets for just 14 runs in 2 overs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya each claimed one wicket.

In reply, RCB was bowled out for 189 runs in 19.5 overs. The opening partnership between Philip Salt and Virat Kohli was explosive, adding 80 runs for the first wicket. Salt scored 62 off 32 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours before his dismissal. Kohli contributed a solid 43 runs from 25 balls, including a six and seven fours. However, the middle order faltered, with Jitesh Sharma, Rajat Patidar, and Mayank Agarwal managing only 24 off 15, 18 off 16, and 11 off 10, respectively.

Pat Cummins led the bowling attack for SRH, taking three wickets, while Eshan Malinga claimed two, and Jaydev Unadkat, Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey, and Nitish Reddy each took one wicket.
