The women's hockey teams from Korea and Wales have arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday in preparation for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers taking place in Telangana. This eight-nation tournament, scheduled from March 8 to March 14, will decide three teams that will qualify for the prestigious event in Belgium and the Netherlands.


Diverse Paths: Korea and Wales

Korea, captained by Lee Yuri, boasts the experience of participating in nine World Cup tournaments and is eager to reclaim its place on the global stage, aiming to surpass its best finish of a bronze medal in 1990. In contrast, Wales is coming off a strong performance, having finished as runners-up at the 2025 EuroHockey Championship II, and is determined to secure its first World Cup appearance since 1983.


Tournament Pools Overview

In the tournament, Korea is placed in Pool A alongside England, Italy, and Austria, while Wales competes in Pool B with India, Scotland, and Uruguay.


Uruguay's Historic Ambitions

The Uruguay women's national hockey team, known as the Cimarronas, arrived in Hyderabad last Thursday, eager to make history by qualifying for their first World Cup. Led by Captain Belen Barreiro, the team is motivated and focused, drawing on their recent successes, including a second-place finish at the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2 and a historic medal achievement at the Pan American Cup 2025.


Uruguay's Pool B Schedule

To realize their World Cup aspirations, Uruguay faces a challenging schedule in Pool B. They will kick off their campaign against the host nation, India, on March 8, followed by a match against Wales on March 9, and will conclude their pool stage against Scotland on March 11.


Qualification for the World Cup

The top three teams from the qualifiers will secure their spots in the World Cup, which is set to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to August 30.
