Konyak Union's Warning to ULFA (I)

Dimapur, July 5: The Konyak Union has issued a renewed warning to the militant group ULFA (I), demanding an immediate end to its operations in the Mon district, which borders Myanmar.

In a recent statement, the union highlighted that despite a public appeal and a stern warning given on April 27 regarding the group's involvement in abductions and extortion in Assam, as well as using Mon district as a refuge, ULFA (I) members continue to be active in the region.

The union expressed that the ongoing activities of ULFA (I) show a blatant disregard for their previous appeals, stating that they will no longer remain passive observers.

Additionally, the union warned all factions and individuals involved in illegal or disruptive actions to cease immediately, asserting that they will not be responsible for any repercussions resulting from decisive actions taken against such individuals.

They also called on security forces to exercise maximum restraint and avoid targeting innocent civilians and daily wage workers based solely on suspicions of underground affiliations without substantial proof.

Furthermore, the union urged security personnel and relevant authorities to refrain from prosecuting innocent individuals under severe legal measures without comprehensive verification.

"It is alarming that many individuals, in their quest for bail and legal recourse, are forced to sell their ancestral properties, homes, and cultivated lands just to secure their freedom," the union remarked.
