New Year’s Eve Operations in Kolkata


Kolkata: On Thursday, police reported that 263 individuals were detained and approximately 1,301 traffic violation cases were registered during the New Year’s celebrations in Kolkata.


As part of efforts to uphold law and order on New Year’s Eve, Kolkata Police executed a comprehensive operation throughout the city, leading to the arrests.


During this initiative, a significant amount of illegal items was confiscated.


Authorities seized nearly four kilograms of unauthorized firecrackers.


In addition, 16.95 liters of illicit liquor were taken from various locations across the city.


The Kolkata Police also focused on traffic management during the celebrations, conducting checks throughout the night to avert accidents and ensure public safety.


Numerous drivers faced legal action for breaching traffic regulations while operating vehicles.


Data from the Kolkata Traffic Police indicated that 1,301 traffic violations were documented on New Year’s Eve.


The most frequent violation was triple riding, with 235 cases reported.


Authorities took action against 480 individuals for riding motorcycles without helmets.


Additionally, 178 cases were filed for reckless driving.


Around 149 people were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol.


Moreover, 259 additional cases were recorded for various other traffic infractions.


The Kolkata Police stated that their vigilant monitoring and proactive measures effectively prevented any significant incidents during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.


With the support of the public, both law enforcement and traffic management were largely successful.


The police announced that similar stringent measures will be enforced in the future to ensure the safety of residents as the New Year begins.


Surveillance efforts will persist throughout the month in anticipation of events such as the Gangasagar Mela camps, Republic Day celebrations, and the International Kolkata Book Fair.
