The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken significant action against corruption and extortion by apprehending Shantanu Sinha Biswas, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kolkata. This arrest is part of an investigation into an alleged network involved in land grabbing, extortion, and financial irregularities. Following over ten hours of questioning at the agency's office, Biswas was taken into custody.

A senior ED official stated, "Shantanu Sinha Biswas was interrogated regarding his connections to the alleged land grabbing, extortion, and financial misconduct linked to the Sona Pappu network."

During the questioning, he repeatedly avoided providing direct answers and did not cooperate with the investigation. The official added, "Based on the evidence collected and his conduct during the inquiry, he was arrested."

Currently assigned to the Kolkata Police's Security Control Department, Biswas had previously ignored several summons, citing official commitments, before finally appearing before the agency.

Additionally, a lookout circular against him was issued by the agency. Investigators are examining his alleged ties to businessman Jai Kamdar, who is believed to be closely associated with Sona Pappu. During the questioning, several WhatsApp chats recovered during the investigation were presented to Biswas.

Having previously served as the officer in charge of the Kalighat police station, Biswas is under scrutiny in multiple cases. He is expected to be presented before a special court on Friday.
