Kiren Rijiju Critiques Rahul Gandhi's Comments on Women's Empowerment
Rijiju Responds to Gandhi's Remarks
On Saturday, Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, expressed his disapproval of recent comments made by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi regarding women's empowerment. In a video posted on Instagram on Friday, Gandhi emphasized the importance of reintegrating women into discussions and granting them the freedom to pursue their chosen careers. Rijiju acknowledged Gandhi's message as a positive one but questioned whether it reflects a genuine shift in his views.
Call for Support on Women's Reservation Bill
Rijiju took to X to state that Gandhi's remarks appear to signal a positive change from the Congress Party. He noted a clear transformation in Gandhi's perspective towards women. Following this, Rijiju urged Congress to support the Women's Reservation Bill unconditionally, expressing hope that the party would back the legislation without any conditions.
Gandhi's Response to Rijiju
In response to Rijiju's comments on the Women's Reservation Bill, Rahul Gandhi pointed out that the law had already been passed unanimously with full support from Congress. He posted on X, questioning Rijiju, as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, about why the law has not been implemented three years after its passage. Gandhi raised concerns about the government's proposal to link the implementation of the law to delimitation.
Demand for Immediate Implementation
Gandhi emphasized that the pressing question is why the law has not been enacted three years later and criticized the unnecessary connection to delimitation. He insisted on the immediate enforcement of the 2023 law without any conditions. The ongoing conflict between the central government and Congress revolves around the proposal to tie the Women's Reservation Bill to the delimitation bill. Congress and other opposition parties have opposed the delimitation bill, demanding that the 33% quota for women be applied based on the current number of seats in Parliament.
