Kiren Rijiju Calls for Inquiry into Congress Leaders' Links with Left-Wing Extremism

Demand for Accountability from Congress Leaders

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has urged for an investigation into the meetings held by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi with individuals associated with left-wing extremism. Speaking in New Delhi on March 31, Rijiju responded to statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the government's efforts against left-wing extremism in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized that the central government's stance on Naxalism is unequivocal and is rooted in years of violence linked to extremist ideologies.

Clarifying the Government's Position

Rijiju pointed out that if one listens closely to Amit Shah's remarks, the message is clear. The spread of left-wing extremism has resulted in the loss of innocent lives across the country, with thousands of security personnel sacrificing their lives, and even several Congress leaders and workers falling victim. Addressing the opposition directly, Rijiju stated that while they question the government, it is essential to also question Congress leaders who are meeting with those promoting left-wing extremism and Maoist ideologies.

Amit Shah's Assertions in Parliament

These comments followed Amit Shah's declaration in Parliament that India is on the path to becoming Naxal-free, which he highlighted as one of the significant achievements of the Narendra Modi government. Shah asserted that Naxalism does not stem from poverty but rather hinders development in affected regions. He accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly meeting with Naxalites and their supporters, claiming that several Naxalite organizations participated in Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Historical Context of Rahul Gandhi's Associations

Shah noted that throughout his extensive political career, Rahul Gandhi has been seen with Naxalites and their supporters on numerous occasions. There are records indicating that various Naxalite groups took part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. In 2010, in Odisha, he shared a platform with Lado Sikoka, a Naxal leader, who delivered incendiary speeches and even adorned Rahul Gandhi with a garland. Shah also provided detailed accounts of security operations against Naxalites, revealing that 4,839 individuals have surrendered, 2,218 have been imprisoned, and 706 were killed in police encounters.
