In an interview with a news agency, Rijiju stated, "After the parliamentary session concluded, Tharoor mentioned to me in the hall that the Congress party might be perceived as anti-women, but no woman would consider Shashi Tharoor as such. I replied, yes, I agree that no one would label you as anti-women, but your party indeed has that reputation." Rijiju emphasized that Tharoor has, in a sense, accepted the notion that Congress has an anti-women stance.

Rijiju presented this dialogue as evidence of Congress's internal mindset. He stressed that Tharoor's comments indicate an awareness of his party's position regarding women's issues. Rijiju remarked that Tharoor has "somewhat acknowledged" the lack of sensitivity towards women within Congress.
