Noida International Airport Project Faces Obstruction

Residents of Noida and Greater Noida are set to benefit from the upcoming Noida International Airport, which aims to alleviate their travel issues by providing a local flight option instead of relying on Delhi Airport.

However, the project has encountered challenges, including a recent kidnapping incident. Five individuals, including a commercial airline pilot, were apprehended on Saturday for allegedly abducting three family members of farmers who had surrendered land for the airport's construction in Jewar. Authorities believe the motive behind this act was to disrupt the land acquisition and rehabilitation efforts, potentially for personal gain.

The victims, identified as Hansraj, his wife Kamlesh Devi, and their son Saurabh, were taken from Rohi village under the pretense of receiving medical treatment. Fortunately, police managed to rescue them from a location near Dayanatpur village.

The suspects have been named as Captain Puttan Singh and his spouse Sarojbala from Sector 135 in Noida, along with Pawan Chaudhary, Pramod from Dayanatpur, and Ramadevi from Maidangarhi in Delhi.

According to Saad Mian Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Greater Noida, the arrested individuals are charged with the kidnapping of the family from Rohi village.

Hansraj's family was part of the initial group of six villages slated for rehabilitation due to the airport project. Despite this, they chose to remain in their home for three years instead of relocating. On May 29, the Deputy District Magistrate ordered their move to the rehabilitation site.

On the same day, Saurabh took his parents to Kailash Hospital in Jewar, where they were discharged on June 4. DCP Khan noted that on June 2, Saurabh's brother Sonu filed a habeas corpus petition in the Allahabad High Court, claiming unlawful detention of his family. The court accepted the petition on June 9 and scheduled a follow-up hearing for July 7.

Authorities suspect that between May 29 and June 2, the kidnappers approached Saurabh and his parents, promising better treatment elsewhere, which led to their disappearance. The police formed seven teams to locate the missing individuals, ultimately finding them held captive in a secluded area outside Dayanatpur.

The DCP confirmed that the kidnapping was part of a conspiracy aimed at hindering the rehabilitation process associated with the Noida International Airport project. A case has been filed under Section 140 (3) at the Jewar police station.
