Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi's Ongoing Struggle to Meet Imran Khan
Continued Denial of Access to Imran Khan
Peshawar: On Thursday, Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, faced yet another refusal from prison officials to meet with the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Earlier this week, after persistent efforts and protests, Imran's sister, Uzma Khan, was finally able to visit him. However, CM Afridi and other leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were also scheduled to meet him on the same day.
Upon arriving at Adiala Jail, Afridi was once again denied entry, as confirmed by a statement from PTI shared on social media.
This marks Afridi's ninth consecutive attempt to gain access to the PTI founder.
Speaking to reporters outside the prison, Afridi indicated that he would soon reveal his next steps, which may include organizing a sit-in protest.
PTI also released a video showing Afridi and his team waiting in a designated area.
Afridi expressed his frustration, stating, 'This is my ninth visit. A chief minister comes here repeatedly, yet even a brief five-minute meeting is denied. The world is watching this unjust treatment, and it is being recorded.'
When questioned about the possibility of spending another night outside the jail in protest, Afridi mentioned that Uzma Khan's meeting had confirmed Imran's physical health, and the party would now strategize regarding concerns about his mental well-being.
Imran Khan, aged 73, has been incarcerated since August 2023 on multiple charges.
