The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India has reported that Harjeet Singh Laddi, a notorious Khalistani terrorist, has taken responsibility for a shooting incident that occurred at Kap's Café, a new restaurant linked to Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, located in Surrey, British Columbia. This incident took place late on July 9, when unidentified assailants opened fire outside the café. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Following the attack on Wednesday night, Kap's Café issued a strong statement expressing their shock over the incident. The restaurant, situated in Surrey, British Columbia, conveyed through an Instagram note that despite the trauma of the event, they remain resilient and committed to standing against violence.


Profile of Harjeet Singh Laddi

Harjeet Singh Laddi has been designated as a most wanted terrorist by the NIA and is associated with Babbar Khalsa International. He hails from Garphadhana village in Nawanshahr, Punjab. Laddi is accused of orchestrating several violent attacks in Punjab, including targeted assaults on right-wing leaders and the murder of Vikas Prabhakar, a leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), in April 2024.


The NIA had previously announced a reward of ₹10 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Laddi and another individual in connection with the murder of Vikas Prabhakar.


Laddi is linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), one of the oldest organized Khalistani terrorist groups, which has been designated as a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the Home Minister.


This group operates in several countries, including Canada and the UK, and is named after the militant organization 'Babbar Akali,' which was active during the British colonial period in the 1920s.


International Network and Leadership

Under the leadership of Wadhawa Singh Babbar, based in Pakistan, BKI is involved in a broader international conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Punjab through terrorist activities. Even while residing abroad, Laddi maintains direct control over his operatives in India. Indian authorities, led by the NIA, have classified Laddi as a high-priority fugitive, offering a reward of ₹10 lakh for information leading to his capture, highlighting his significance in anti-terrorism efforts.
