Court Orders Police Custody for Accused

The Shillong District Court has ordered the remand of five primary suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, to eight days of police custody in connection with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, according to police reports.

Accused Presented in Court

Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor, the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, confirmed that all suspects were presented before the District Court.

Discovery of Raja's Body

This development follows the ongoing investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose remains were found in a gorge near Sohra, close to Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, on June 2.

Missing During Honeymoon

Raja was on his honeymoon with Sonam in the northeastern state in May 2025, and both were reported missing during their trip.

Sonam Found Near Highway

After Raja's body was discovered, Sonam was located near a roadside dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. She, along with four others, faces accusations related to the alleged murder.

Brother's Alarming Claims

Earlier today, Sonam's brother, Govind, made a startling claim, stating he is '100% sure' of her involvement in her husband's murder.

Call for Severe Punishment

During a press conference, Govind demanded harsh punishment for Sonam, asserting that she should be hanged if found guilty. He expressed his sorrow to Raja's family for their loss and stated he would do everything possible to rectify his sister's actions.

Govind's Strong Statements

'Based on the evidence available, I am completely convinced that she is responsible for this murder... All the accused are connected to Raj Kushwaha... I have distanced myself from Sonam and now consider myself part of Raja's family, as he was very dear to me,' Govind remarked.

Sonam's Relationship with Raj Kushwaha

Govind also highlighted the close relationship between Sonam and one of the accused, Raj Kushwaha, revealing that Sonam has been tying a rakhi to him for the past three years, indicating a familial bond.
