Kerala's CPI(M) to Challenge Clean Chit for Chief Minister in Housing Project Investigation
CPI(M) Takes Legal Action Against Clean Chit
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala announced on Friday its intention to contest the clean chit given to Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan by the vigilance department regarding the investigation into foreign funding for the Rejuvenation Housing Project. During a press conference held in Ernakulam, S. Satish, the district secretary of CPI(M), stated that the party would pursue legal options against the vigilance report while continuing to expose alleged irregularities in the housing project initiated in Satheesan's North Paravur constituency following the 2018 Kerala floods.
Satish emphasized that the allegations linked to the Rejuvenation Project have not been adequately addressed. He asserted, “We will not let this matter be buried, and we will challenge the clean chit in court.” He added, “Serious allegations exist in the Rejuvenation case, and they cannot be dismissed with a clean chit.”
He further stated, “We will take all necessary legal steps and continue to present the facts to the public.” Satish criticized the vigilance department's decision, arguing that it is unacceptable given the potential violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), suggesting that the investigation should be conducted by a central agency. He also raised questions about the alleged involvement of the ‘Manappuram Foundation’ and its connection to the Rejuvenation Project, claiming that information has emerged indicating that funds raised from abroad reached Kerala through the foundation.
Addressing claims made by Congress leaders regarding the project's implementation, Satish demanded that the Chief Minister disclose details about the 219 houses that Congress claims were constructed under the Rejuvenation scheme. He stated, “If 219 houses have been built, their addresses should be made public. The people of Paravur have the right to know where these houses are located.”
