Kerala Shocking Case: 64 Individuals Accused of Assaulting Young Athlete
Disturbing Incident in Kerala
A horrifying incident has emerged from Kerala, where a young female athlete has reportedly been assaulted by 64 individuals. The police have detained 15 suspects for questioning in connection with this case.
This shocking revelation involves a girl from a Dalit community, and the police are equally stunned by the extent of the allegations. Initially, six individuals were arrested, and subsequently, nine more were taken into custody, as confirmed by the Kerala police on Saturday.
According to police reports, evidence has surfaced indicating that the girl was assaulted by multiple individuals, including her coach, fellow athletes, and classmates. The girl utilized her father's mobile phone to communicate with the suspects, which led to the identification of 40 individuals based on the phone records and information found in her diary.
Authorities suspect that over 60 individuals may be involved, prompting the filing of multiple complaints across various police stations in Pathanamthitta.
A senior police official stated that these incidents occurred while the girl was still a minor, leading to the application of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has indicated that individuals from outside Pathanamthitta may also be implicated in this case, with reports suggesting that the girl has been a victim of repeated assaults since the age of 13.
To provide necessary support, the girl has been referred to a psychologist for intensive counseling. The CWC chairperson revealed that several phone numbers of suspected perpetrators were found on the girl's father's phone. A total of five complaints have been registered concerning the assault, and authorities anticipate further filings and arrests.
This case came to light during counseling sessions conducted by the Child Welfare Committee, following reports from the girl's teachers about noticeable changes in her behavior. Subsequently, the committee alerted the police, leading to the initiation of an investigation.
A special investigation team, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Pathanamthitta, has been established to thoroughly examine the case.
