Explosives Hidden Under Watermelons
According to officials from the Palakkad Town South Police Station, the seizure occurred late Wednesday night. Intelligence reports indicated that a significant shipment of explosives was being brought into the state. When police signaled for a pickup truck to stop, the driver accelerated instead of complying. The police pursued and managed to surround the vehicle for a search.
Driver Taken into Custody
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Senthil, has been taken into custody. During initial questioning, he revealed that he had loaded the boxes in Coimbatore and was transporting them to a mine in Thrissur.
Investigation Underway
Authorities had already received information about a large quantity of explosives being brought into the state. The pickup truck was stopped during routine vehicle checks. Despite being instructed to halt, the driver refused, prompting the police to chase him down. A case is now being registered against the driver under the Explosive Substances Act.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were intended for covert use in black stone quarry operations. Police noted that similar incidents have occurred in the past, and a thorough investigation is currently ongoing.
