In a significant move, Shyam Sundar, the Inspector General of the Southern Range in Kerala, has ordered the immediate suspension of Circle Inspector KG Pratapchandran. This decision comes in light of disturbing CCTV footage that surfaced, showing an assault on a pregnant woman at the Ernakulam North police station during Pratapchandran's tenure as Station House Officer (SHO) in 2024.

Details of the Incident

The incident that led to the complaint occurred last year while Pratapchandran was serving as the SHO at the Ernakulam North police station. He is currently assigned as Circle Inspector in Arur. The CCTV footage depicting the assault on the woman was handed over to the complainants following directives from the High Court.

Investigation and Ongoing Proceedings

Following the release of the video and the ensuing public outcry, action was initiated against Pratapchandran. The IG of the Southern Range, Shyam Sundar, has mandated his suspension pending the investigation. Pratapchandran remains suspended while the official inquiry into the incident continues.
