Police Response to Threats in Kerala

In Kerala, law enforcement is on high alert following threats made against VIPs and political leaders. A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening the life of Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan and his family, according to officials. The suspect has been identified as Sony Thomas, a resident of Attingal.

According to police reports, an unidentified caller contacted the Thiruvananthapuram City District Police Command and Control Center (DPCC) at approximately 6:50 PM, claiming he would kill the Chief Minister and his family.

The FIR states that when questioned about his motives, the caller reportedly expressed his dislike for Satheesan. The accused made a second call at 6:53 PM, reiterating his threats. The FIR also notes that the caller used abusive language towards the police officer who answered the call and questioned whether adequate security measures were in place for the Chief Minister.

Following this, the Cantonment police initiated an investigation to trace the phone number. By Saturday morning, they had apprehended Thomas in Attingal.

Officials have indicated that he will be presented in court today. Additionally, a separate case has been registered at the Mayyil police station in Kannur district concerning a death threat received by MLA T. K. Govindan on Friday.

Police reported that Govindan received a threatening phone call around 4 PM, during which he was verbally abused and threatened. Authorities at the Mayyil police station have identified the caller and plan to take action against him soon. Govindan, who was expelled from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), contested as an independent candidate supported by the United Democratic Front (UDF) and won in the Thaliparamba assembly constituency.

The Kerala police have demonstrated vigilance in both cases. In light of these threats against prominent political figures, including the Leader of the Opposition and a sitting MLA, police are reviewing security protocols and closely monitoring social media and phone communications.
