Kerala Faces Heavy Rainfall: Red Alert Issued by Meteorological Department

Severe Weather Warnings in Kerala
On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced a red alert for exceptionally heavy rainfall across five northern districts in Kerala, effective until June 16.
The alert for Kannur and Kasaragod is set to expire on Sunday, while Wayanad's alert will last until Monday, and Mallapuram and Kozhikode will remain under alert until Tuesday.
Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for six districts: Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall until Tuesday.
The remaining districts—Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram—are under a yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall on Saturday.
According to the latest five-day forecast from the weather agency, Kerala is expected to experience heavy rain at least until Wednesday.
The monsoon season commenced in Kerala on May 24, arriving eight days earlier than the typical June 1 date. This marks the earliest onset of the monsoon in Kerala since 2009, when it began on May 23.
Following the onset, the state experienced significant rainfall, which was later followed by a brief lull in precipitation.
The southwest monsoon is anticipated to progress over most regions of northwestern India, including Delhi, by June 25, as reported by the weather department on Thursday.
