Kerala Experiences Unprecedented Rainfall in Early August

Significant Rainfall Recorded Across Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, August 4 - Between August 1 and 4, Kerala experienced a staggering 205.8 millimeters (mm) of rainfall, significantly higher than the usual 73.2 mm for this period. This marks an increase of 181 percent above the normal rainfall levels across the state.

The district of Pathanamthitta recorded the highest rainfall, with 275.5 mm compared to the normal 49.7 mm, resulting in a remarkable 454 percent increase. Following closely, Thiruvananthapuram saw 121.8 mm of rain against a normal of 24.8 mm, which is 391 percent more than average.

In Kozhikode, rainfall reached 290.1 mm, exceeding the normal by 274 percent. Kollam recorded 130.6 mm, which is 245 percent above average, while Malappuram experienced 227 mm of rain, marking a 235 percent increase. Kottayam also saw significant rainfall at 209.3 mm, 234 percent higher than normal.

Kannur reported 274.4 mm of rain, 179 percent more than usual, and Ernakulam received 192.8 mm, which is 180 percent above average. Alappuzha recorded 139.2 mm, exceeding normal levels by 175 percent.

In Thrissur, rainfall was measured at 189.6 mm, 162 percent higher than normal, while Palakkad saw 174.3 mm, which is 188 percent above average. Idukki recorded 229.2 mm, 110 percent more than usual.

Kasaragod experienced 205.3 mm of rain, 80 percent above normal, and Wayanad recorded 171.2 mm, which is 57 percent more than average. The Union Territory of Mahe also faced heavy rainfall, with 201.2 mm recorded against a normal of 81.1 mm, indicating a 148 percent increase. These figures highlight the extensive impact of the monsoon's heavy rains across Kerala during the first four days of August.
