Chief Minister's Visit to Flood-Hit Regions

Patthanamthitta (Kerala), August 4 - The Chief Minister of Kerala, V D Satheesan, visited the flood-affected regions of Patthanamthitta district on Tuesday. He announced that the government is considering the implementation of an effective system for disaster management and forecasting sudden climate changes. During his interaction with the media in Patthanamthitta, the Chief Minister stated that experts and artificial intelligence (AI) will be utilized to develop a robust climate forecasting and early warning mechanism.

Satheesan also pointed out that since 2019, sediment removal from several rivers in the state, including the Pamba River, has not been carried out. This neglect has led to a rapid rise in water levels during the recent heavy rainfall. He assured that immediate actions will be taken to remove sediment from rivers across the state, with a focus on Patthanamthitta.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that many areas in the state experienced over 300 millimeters of rainfall in a short period, resulting in landslides and subsidence, particularly in forest regions. He remarked, “Fortunately, there have not been many casualties in this disaster.”
