Kerala Assembly Elections Scheduled for April 9: Key Details Announced

Election Announcement

The Election Commission of India held a press conference today at 4 PM, revealing the schedule for assembly elections in five states, including Kerala. According to the Commission, voting for all assembly seats in Kerala will take place on April 9. The voter list has already been finalized, and the final list has been published.

Voting Schedule

Voting in Kerala will occur in a single phase. The counting of votes is set for May 4, the same day the election results will be announced. With the announcement of the elections, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the state. Besides Kerala, election schedules have also been declared for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry.

Congress to Release Candidate List Soon

Following the announcement of the election dates, political activity has intensified among parties. Congress leader V.D. Satheesan stated that the party will announce its candidates in phases. Speaking to reporters in Kochi, he clarified that there are no disputes regarding seat-sharing with coalition partners, and discussions are in the final stages. According to Satheesan, the delay in announcing names was due to waiting for the election schedule.

Political Landscape in Kerala

The primary contest in Kerala is expected to be between the ruling leftist parties and the Congress-led coalition. Traditionally, the government in Kerala changes every five years; however, in the last election, the leftists, under Pinarayi Vijayan's leadership, made history by winning again. This time, while the leftist parties aim to maintain their hold, Congress is buoyed by positive results from the Lok Sabha elections and is striving to reclaim power.
