Kejriwal Raises Concerns Over Rising Fuel Prices
After witnessing a fourth increase in fuel prices within two weeks, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has raised questions regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reluctance to import crude oil and gas from Russia and Iran, which could be significantly cheaper. On social media, Kejriwal noted that fuel prices have surged again, asking what constraints prevent Modi from purchasing cheaper oil from these countries.
In a video message, he highlighted that petrol and diesel prices have risen by approximately ₹7.5 to ₹8 over the past two weeks, while the average increase in other nations has been around ₹2.5. He pointed out that today marks another hike in fuel prices, with an average increase of ₹2.5 per litre across the country. This marks the fourth increase in recent days, totaling nearly ₹7.5 to ₹8 in the last 10-15 days.
Kejriwal questioned why India is not purchasing oil and gas from Russia and Iran, both of which are willing to supply these resources at lower prices. He mentioned that a recent poll indicated that nearly 97% of respondents supported the idea of buying oil and gas from these nations.
Despite public demand and the offers from these countries for affordable supplies, Kejriwal expressed concern over the barriers preventing the Prime Minister from making these purchases. He emphasized the struggles faced by 1.4 million people in India due to inflation and asked what is stopping the Prime Minister from securing oil and gas from Russia and Iran when there is a clear demand from citizens and ample supply available.
