Kejriwal's Strong Allegations Against the Central Government
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claimed on Wednesday that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is resorting to intimidation tactics to enforce the use of E-20 petrol. During a press conference, he asserted that nearly 30 million vehicles manufactured before 2023 would become obsolete due to this initiative, alleging that the central government is pressuring automobile companies to remain silent.
Criticizing the government's push for ethanol-blended fuel, Kejriwal stated that the Modi administration is resorting to coercion to implement E-20 petrol. He mentioned that he had previously sent letters to 29 automobile manufacturers inquiring whether vehicles produced before 2023 could utilize E-20 fuel. He also asked if they would provide compensation in case of vehicle malfunctions or reduced mileage. However, he noted that no official responses were received, although he spoke with officials from nine companies.
Kejriwal further alleged that these companies are operating under fear. He quoted them as saying that the Modi government is threatening them, acknowledging that using E-20 in vehicles made before 2023 could lead to engine damage and decreased mileage. He remarked, 'If we speak out, we will be ruined. They will shut down our plants or conduct ED raids.' He accused Modi of intent on rendering 30 million vehicles obsolete.
He also questioned the benefits of ethanol, stating that it does not contribute to foreign currency reserves and depletes groundwater resources. Kejriwal expressed confusion over Modi's insistence on this issue, revealing that they had planned a town hall meeting on E-20, but police arrived at the Constitution Club and canceled their permission. He noted that they had never required prior permission for indoor events. 'Modi, you must retract the E-20 decision, whether willingly or by force,' he insisted.
In response to threats of protests from the 'Cockroach Public Party' (CJP), Kejriwal affirmed that his party supports the right to protest. He encouraged them to demonstrate, stating, 'We stand with them.' He recalled that ministers had promised during a press conference that FIRs would be withdrawn, questioning why such a falsehood was propagated.
