Kaziranga National Park Readies for 2026-27 Tourism

Guwahati, Sept 24: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve are gearing up for the 2026-27 tourism season, with officials focusing on infrastructure enhancements and the assessment of jeep safari routes.
According to Kaziranga's Divisional Forest Officer, Arun Vignesh, the preparations include essential repairs to roads, bridges, and other facilities within the park. The verification of jeep safari routes is also in progress.
Vignesh noted that the speed of these repairs is contingent on weather conditions, expressing optimism that the work would be finalized promptly if the weather remains favorable.
“Currently, work is being conducted in two areas. However, in Burhapahar, the presence of water is hindering road repairs. If conditions improve, we anticipate completing the work soon, allowing the park to reopen in October,” he stated.
He emphasized the significance of Kaziranga's wetlands and their drainage systems, explaining that water presence can impede infrastructure projects.
“The wetlands are crucial for Kaziranga, as they are linked to the drainage. When water is present, we cannot obstruct the drains, which leads to delays in our work,” he added.
During the 2025-26 season, the park saw a record number of international tourists, with 30,474 visitors recorded by March 31, 2026, a significant increase from 17,693 in the previous season.
In total, Kaziranga welcomed 468,147 visitors during the 2025-26 season, compared to 406,564 in the 2024-25 season.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site is set to officially open for the 2026 season on September 26, with a ceremony planned at the park's Western Range in Bagori.
