Formation of Karnataka's New Cabinet
Former minister and Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi stated on Wednesday that the new cabinet in Karnataka will be established in collaboration with the party high command, Chief Minister candidate D.K. Shivakumar, and outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Preparations are underway for Shivakumar's oath-taking ceremony in Bengaluru. Speaking before the ceremony, Jarkiholi expressed confidence that the new government would operate effectively and focus on the party's long-term political objectives.
Jarkiholi mentioned that the high command, along with D.K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah, will determine who will be part of the cabinet. Following this, they anticipate a competent government and are aiming for the elections scheduled in 2028. His comments come amid ongoing speculation regarding the first cabinet under Shivakumar's leadership, who is set to take the oath of office today at the Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. When asked about reports suggesting that several other leaders are being considered for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president position, Jarkiholi noted that discussions typically involve multiple names before a final decision is made.
He explained that there are usually two or three names in consideration, as it is uncommon to have just one. They will select the most qualified individual. When questioned about demands for ministerial positions in the new government, Jarkiholi denied any final decisions, stating that discussions on cabinet positions are still pending. He emphasized that they will consider these matters only after everything is finalized, asserting that nothing is confirmed yet and they will wait and see.
Meanwhile, sources reported on Wednesday that the Congress party's high command has finalized the list of ministers, with a total of 14 ministers set to take the oath. According to party sources, the leadership approved the ministerial list ahead of the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 4 PM at the Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Congress leader M.B. Patil confirmed his selection for a ministerial position, stating that future Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar informed him of his appointment and congratulated him. Patil also extended his best wishes and expressed gratitude for being included in this cabinet.
