Karnataka Police Take Action Against RSS and BJP Leaders for Inflammatory Remarks
Legal Action Against RSS Leader
The Karnataka Police have initiated legal proceedings against Kallada Prabhakar Bhat, a leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, for allegedly making provocative statements during a condolence gathering in Dakshina Kannada district, as reported by local media on Monday.
These remarks were reportedly made on May 12 in Kavalapadur village during a memorial for Suhas Shetty, a Bajrang Dal member with a criminal history, who was the main suspect in the murder of a 23-year-old named Mohammed Fazil in 2022.
Shetty was said to have been killed within the limits of Mangaluru city on May 1.
According to police, Bhat's comments, made to an audience of approximately 500, were deemed capable of disrupting communal harmony.
The Bantwal Rural Police have filed a case against Bhat for public mischief under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as reported by local news outlets.
BJP Leader Faces Charges for Anti-Muslim Comments
In a separate incident in Kalaburgi district, police have also charged Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manikanta Rathod for allegedly making inflammatory remarks targeting the Muslim community, according to reports from local media on Sunday.
A complaint was lodged against Rathod for his statements that incited hostility towards Muslims and encouraged division among different faith communities.
A video of his speech has circulated widely online, prompting authorities to register a case against him at the CEN Crime Police Station in Kalaburgi.
Rathod has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which address promoting enmity between groups, making prejudicial assertions against national unity, outraging religious sentiments, and public mischief.
