Karnataka Home Minister Defends Government's Achievements Amid Opposition Criticism
Home Minister's Response to Opposition
On Wednesday, Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the criticism from opposition leaders regarding a ceremony celebrating the government's three-year tenure. He characterized the feedback as constructive and defended the event's purpose. Speaking about the ceremony held in Tumakuru, Parameshwara stated that it was organized to mark the completion of three years of governance by the state government.
He emphasized that the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, all ministers, and legislators participated in the event. The intention was to convey to the people of Karnataka that they have governed on their behalf for three years, fulfilling all promises made in their manifesto. 'We have done what we said we would do and will continue to do so,' he affirmed.
Addressing Criticism from the Opposition
In response to the opposition's remarks, he noted that it is natural for the opposition to critique the ruling party's initiatives. He viewed this as positive criticism. They questioned how many programs would be held in the next two years. Parameshwara clarified that no one was forced to attend the event, dismissing claims that 152,000 people were coerced into participation as false. He insisted that the event was not anti-people.
He explained that while government projects typically involve meetings at the taluka level, state-level events are organized to inform all citizens of Karnataka about the government's achievements. 'There was no malice intended. Criticism from the opposition is expected when a party is in power. Regardless of the debates, our duty is to ensure good governance,' he stated.
Five Guarantees for the Public
Discussing the five guarantees provided by the government, he reiterated their commitment to the public and the underprivileged. 'Who have we given these five guarantees to? The people. Our aim is to assist the poor. Even affluent individuals are benefiting and expressing satisfaction. Our goal is to reach the entire community. Haven't millions experienced these five guarantees by now? People understand this. How will critics comprehend it?' he questioned.
Regarding the news about Tumakuru being linked to the Bengaluru North district, Parameshwara clarified that Tumakuru is merely a concept. 'Did I say that the name of Tumakuru would change? Tumakuru will retain its name. Our region will not change. It will remain as it is. The aim is to establish Tumakuru as part of the Bengaluru development corridor to attract investment. Once Bengaluru becomes part of it, investors from the U.S. will consider investing here. Furthermore, we will not change anything. Not a single boundary of Tumakuru has been altered.' He cited the example of Delhi-NCR, explaining how NCR was created around Delhi without changing its essence. 'There is no need for misunderstanding. Tumakuru will remain as it is, and Tumakuru taluka will remain unchanged.'
