Karnataka Home Minister Addresses IPL Ticket Misuse Allegations

Minister's Response to Ticket Misuse Claims

On Monday, Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara refuted claims regarding the improper use of Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets by state MLAs. He clarified that tickets are purchased online and are attended by the buyers themselves. Parameshwara emphasized that only the MLAs or their family members are permitted to attend the IPL matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, as the tickets are labeled 'non-transferable.' He stated, 'The tickets are booked online, and those who booked them have attended. When tickets are taken online, how can we control who purchases them? There is no misuse. The MLAs themselves can go, or their family members can attend, that is how it is arranged. It is difficult for us to identify any wrongdoing in this.' He further explained that if the tickets are not marked as 'non-transferable,' then friends and family could also attend.

Background on MLA Ticket Distribution

This statement follows remarks made by Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar, who announced last week that three tickets for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) matches during the ongoing IPL would be allocated to MLAs and MPs. In anticipation of IPL 2026, Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar proposed that each MLA should receive a minimum of five IPL tickets, arguing that elected officials are 'VIPs' who should not have to queue.

RCB's Performance in IPL 2026

The home team and reigning champions, RCB, are maintaining their impressive performance in IPL 2026, having secured a decisive 43-run victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This win marks RCB's second consecutive victory in IPL 2026, placing them at the top of the points table with four points and a remarkable Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.501.
