Court Proceedings on RCB Marketing Head's Petition

The Karnataka High Court has commenced hearings regarding the petition filed by Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who was arrested in connection with a tragic stampede. He is seeking interim relief on the grounds that his arrest was unlawful. Arguments from both sides have concluded, and the court has reserved its order until 2:30 PM on June 12.

On Wednesday, the Karnataka government attributed responsibility for the unfortunate stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to RCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The incident, which resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals, took place during a victory celebration on June 4, for which no formal permission had been obtained.

Government's Stance on RCB's Actions

During the court session, Shashi Kiran Shetty, the Advocate General representing the state, stated that RCB irresponsibly promoted the event on social media. He informed the court that despite lacking approval, the organizers proceeded to invite the public widely. The High Court is currently reviewing petitions filed by Sosale and three others who are contesting their arrests related to the incident, with Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar presiding over the case.

Allegations Against RCB and BCCI

Shetty leveled several accusations against RCB and its associates, asserting that the franchise failed to apply for the necessary permits to hold a public event. The state also held BCCI accountable, arguing that the cricket board had entered into an agreement with RCB to manage critical responsibilities such as security, gate control, and ticket management.
