On Tuesday, D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, announced that the state cabinet will establish a timeline for conducting a caste census within the next 90 days. He assured that the process would be 'transparent' and aimed at safeguarding the interests of all societal groups.

Shivakumar's remarks followed a high-level meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi, where the decision to re-collect caste data was made. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was also present during the discussions.

Siddaramaiah informed reporters that various ministers and communities had expressed concerns, prompting the party leadership to decide on the caste census. He stated, 'We have reached an agreement. The party has decided to complete the survey and submit a report within 90 days.'

Emphasizing the importance of transparency, Shivakumar noted that the census would involve all communities. He mentioned, 'The cabinet will determine the date and timeline for the survey, which is a lengthy and extensive process. The Chief Minister will announce the date.'

The Deputy Chief Minister reassured that the new census would address the concerns of every community, ensuring that no one is excluded. He added that individuals residing outside Karnataka would also have the opportunity to provide their details online.

Shivakumar urged all communities and organizations to cooperate with the survey, stating, 'People should not worry about our government. We will involve everyone and ensure justice. This is our party's commitment.' He concluded by highlighting that the government's goal is to protect all sections of society, with reservation decisions based on the census findings.
