Criticism of Kerala CM's Comments

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed strong disapproval on Saturday regarding Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's unwarranted interference in the matter of land encroachments in Bengaluru. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Sadashivanagar, he lamented that it is unfortunate for a senior leader like Vijayan to comment without understanding the facts of the situation. The land in question was previously a garbage dump, contributing to various health issues in the area.

Response to Allegations

Shivakumar emphasized that they have shown humanity by providing opportunities for relocation to those affected. He stated that leaders like Vijayan should refrain from meddling in such matters. He pointed out that land mafia often create slums and then seize the land, a situation they are determined to prevent. He assured that eligible individuals would be offered housing under the Rajiv Gandhi scheme. In response to Vijayan's remarks, he claimed that the Karnataka government is not enforcing a 'bulldozer raj' in Bengaluru.

Clarification on Housing Policies

He further clarified that Karnataka does not have a culture of bulldozing homes. Shivakumar appealed to Vijayan to refrain from making such statements, asserting that they are protecting government land located in the heart of the city. He mentioned that Bengaluru is different from other cities, with fewer slums. This area is part of Krishna Byre Gowda's constituency, and he has already discussed the matter with officials. He stressed that the situation does not pertain to minorities, and if anyone is genuinely affected, they will be provided housing elsewhere. Under the leadership of Chief Minister and Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed, their government has constructed millions of homes for the poor in the state.

Political Motivations Behind Protests

When asked about protests in response to Vijayan's statements, Shivakumar remarked, "All these statements and protests are politically motivated. They should not comment on our state's affairs without knowing the facts. This is a political tactic ahead of the upcoming Kerala elections."
