Karnataka Deputy CM Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Congress High Command
Deputy CM's Statement on Delhi Visit
In light of renewed speculation regarding power-sharing in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has confirmed that he will travel to New Delhi alongside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the invitation of the Congress party's high command. During a press interaction in Bengaluru on Saturday, when asked about their potential visit to meet the party leadership, Shivakumar stated, "I will not be going to Delhi secretly. I will go with the Chief Minister at the high command's request. If we do travel, we will inform you (the media)."
Siddaramaiah Dismisses Power-Sharing Claims
Earlier, on December 19, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah firmly rejected claims of a power-sharing agreement lasting two and a half years, asserting that he remains the Chief Minister. Responding to repeated inquiries and disruptions from the opposition regarding his tenure, Siddaramaiah clarified that no such arrangement exists and that he will continue in his role until a decision is made by the party's high command. He emphasized, "First, the public's blessing is essential. Then, we elect a leader in the legislative party meeting, after which the high command makes a decision. I have only stated this. I am still the Chief Minister, and I will remain so until the high command's decision."
Speculations and Clarifications
For several days, there were rumors about whether the Congress high command would appoint D.K. Shivakumar as Chief Minister. However, these speculations were addressed when both leaders met for breakfast at each other's residences and held a joint press conference to demonstrate party unity. Previously, Shivakumar had dismissed rumors surrounding the nature of a dinner event he hosted, stating, "Who said that? There was no dinner event or anything of that sort. I attended a dinner in honor of my former DCC president, who has contributed significantly to Karnataka and Belagavi. I went to pay my respects with my friends. There is no other political motive behind it." Meanwhile, BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of neglecting the state's interests amid their ongoing tussle for the top position.
