Congress Leaders React to Kerala CM's Comments

Leaders from the ruling Congress party in Karnataka expressed strong disapproval on Saturday regarding Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's criticism of the demolition actions targeting minorities in a Bengaluru locality.

Congress officials stated that they cannot permit the establishment of slums in the city and advised Vijayan to focus on issues within his own state. Amid escalating tensions, the Congress high command emphasized that the Karnataka government should have exhibited greater caution, sensitivity, and compassion.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the eviction campaign in Fakir Colony, asserting that it was necessary to address illegal encroachments on government land. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar advised Vijayan to refrain from interfering in the affairs of neighboring states.

On Friday, Vijayan condemned the alleged demolition of Muslim residential areas in Bengaluru, labeling the actions as 'shocking and painful.'

In a Facebook post, he referenced the reported bulldozing of Fakir Colony and Wasim Layout, where Muslim families had resided for many years. Congress state president Shivakumar told reporters, 'This is all political posturing. Pinarayi (Vijayan) should not meddle in our state's matters without knowing the facts. These are merely political maneuvers ahead of elections.'

He expressed disappointment that a senior leader like Vijayan commented on the situation in Bengaluru without understanding the underlying issues. The Deputy Chief Minister added, 'Some individuals had encroached upon the land. This was a dumping ground. It was a stone quarry, posing significant health risks. The squatters attempted illegal occupation. Our government and local representatives have stated that this area is very dangerous.'

He emphasized that the Congress government in Karnataka adopts a humanitarian approach and will provide alternative housing to eligible individuals in accordance with regulations.
