Karnataka Congress Leaders Emphasize High Command's Role in Potential Changes
Political Dynamics in Karnataka Congress
Senior Congress leader K.N. Rajanna stated on Saturday that any potential changes within the state government or the party will be determined solely by the Congress High Command. Speaking to a news outlet in Bengaluru, he remarked, "If there are expectations for any changes within the Karnataka government or the party, the decision will rest with the High Command. Regardless of my position in the Cabinet, I will always remain a party worker. Unlike the BJP, there is no struggle for power within Congress."
His comments came amid ongoing political discussions regarding possible reshuffles in the Karnataka government, where Congress leaders are emphasizing unity and discipline within the party. Earlier, Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara mentioned on Thursday that any decision regarding the Chief Minister's position is entirely in the hands of the Congress High Command, as speculations and internal dynamics fuel debates about potential leadership changes. While addressing the media in Bengaluru, Parameshwara clarified that he has neither formed a faction nor issued directives to his supporters who wish to see him as the next Chief Minister. He stated, "I do not have a 'team.' Some individuals, friends, or well-wishers may express their opinions. Even during my district visits, some people make such remarks. This is their self-interest, but ultimately, the High Command will make the decision."
These remarks from the Home Minister surfaced amid an alleged power struggle within the Karnataka Congress, with the Chief Minister's position becoming a contentious issue as the government approaches the halfway mark of its term. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara are considered key figures in this political turmoil.
Previously, Karnataka Minister M.B. Patil responded to ongoing discussions regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's tenure, stating that the party's High Command will determine the future of state leadership.
Minister M.B. Patil commented on the issue of full-time Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, saying, "The High Command is paramount in our party. Whatever the High Command decides is final, and my statements hold no significance, even if Siddaramaiah, D.K. Shivakumar, and others have said the same."
