Immediate Actions Post-Tragedy


Bengaluru: In response to the tragic stampede that resulted in 11 fatalities outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered the suspension of the city's police commissioner along with several senior officials.


Additionally, the Chief Minister has mandated the arrest of representatives from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), DNA event management, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The investigation will be conducted by a one-man judicial commission led by retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice Michael Cunha.


The unfortunate incident took place on Wednesday evening as crowds gathered to celebrate RCB's IPL victory.


During a cabinet meeting, Siddaramaiah stated, "The cabinet thoroughly discussed the tragedy and decided to assign the investigation to Justice Cunha's commission, which is expected to submit its report within 30 days."


He further instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the immediate arrest of the involved representatives.


The cabinet also resolved to suspend the Circle Police Inspector of Cubbon Park, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for that area, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the central zone, and the Additional Commissioner of Police responsible for the stadium, along with the Bengaluru city police commissioner.
