Siddaramaiah Breaks Record for Longest Serving CM in Karnataka

Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has officially surpassed the record previously held by the late former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs for the longest tenure in the state's history. On Wednesday, during his second term, Siddaramaiah (77) matched Urs's record of 2,792 days in office, which he achieved on January 6.

Urs, a symbol of social justice and land reforms in the state, served as Chief Minister twice: first from March 20, 1972, to December 31, 1977, for a total of 2,113 days, and then from February 28, 1978, to January 7, 1980, for 679 days. Siddaramaiah is the only Chief Minister to complete five years in office after Urs, having served from May 13, 2013, to May 15, 2018, for 1,829 days.

In his current term, which began on May 20, 2023, he has already completed 963 days. Siddaramaiah stated that he did not enter politics to break records but expressed confidence in completing a full five-year term.

He emphasized that the final decision regarding his tenure lies with the Congress high command. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar congratulated Siddaramaiah on this remarkable achievement. Many ministers and Congress leaders close to Siddaramaiah have also expressed their belief in his ability to complete a full term.

Supporters and fans of Siddaramaiah have celebrated this milestone across the state with feasts, featuring his favorite dish, 'Nati Koli' (country chicken), at many of these gatherings.
