Karnataka CM Responds to Stampede Tragedy

On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that he would not justify the recent stampede by making comparisons to other tragic events, such as the Kumbh Mela incident.

He remarked, "Such incidents have occurred in various locations; I will not defend this by drawing parallels and stating that it has happened elsewhere... 50-60 individuals lost their lives during Kumbh Mela. I did not criticize that. If the Congress party chooses to criticize, that is a separate issue. Did I or the Karnataka government make any criticisms?"

Siddaramaiah emphasized, "I do not wish to defend this incident. Our administration will refrain from politicizing it. I have initiated a magisterial inquiry and set a deadline of 15 days. Attendees even broke the stadium gates. A stampede occurred, and no one anticipated such a massive turnout. The stadium can accommodate only 35,000 people, yet 2-3 lakh individuals attended."

The Chief Minister announced that the government would provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and ensure free medical treatment for those injured.

He added, "All available police personnel in Bengaluru were deployed. Clearly, this incident should not have occurred. We stand with the victims."
