Potential Relocation of Chinnaswamy Stadium

In response to the public outcry following last week's unfortunate incident, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Sunday that the cricket stadium might be moved to a different site, away from the Central Business District. He emphasized that the government would thoroughly evaluate this proposal and involve all relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process.

The government will consider relocating the cricket stadium to a new site. Such distressing events should not occur under any administration. This incident has personally affected me and my government deeply,” Siddaramaiah remarked, addressing the chaos that erupted during the IPL victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 4.

Chinnaswamy Stadium, located in a congested area, often faces severe traffic issues during major cricket matches. While the venue typically accommodates 35,000 spectators, over 300,000 fans attended the event on June 4, which is believed to have contributed to the tragic events that ensued, resulting in injuries and political fallout.

In light of the incident, the Karnataka government decided to suspend several key police officials, a move that has drawn criticism from both opposition parties and members of the police force. Head Constable Narasimharaju openly protested the decision, arguing that the removal of senior officers undermined the police force and ignored the underlying issues related to crowd management and event planning.
