Karbi Anglong District Issues Advisory Amid Rising Flood Risks

Public Advisory Issued for Safety

Diphu, June 4: The Karbi Anglong district administration has released a public advisory urging all residents and visitors to avoid picnic spots, waterfalls, and other tourist attractions in the area until further notice. This decision comes in response to the heavy rainfall over recent days, which has led to a significant rise in river and waterfall water levels.

The current situation poses a serious threat of flash floods, landslides, and related accidents, especially in elevated and forested areas where the terrain has become particularly dangerous.

To ensure public safety, the administration is closely monitoring the situation in partnership with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and other relevant agencies. Updates will be provided as needed, depending on weather conditions and assessments conducted on-site.

The district administration has appealed to the public for cooperation in preventing potential incidents and ensuring safety during this critical period. Residents are encouraged to stay alert, follow official guidance, and report any emergencies to local administrative offices or law enforcement.

Rice Distribution Announcement

Rice distribution: In a related development, the food, public distribution, and consumer affairs department of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in Diphu has officially informed beneficiaries in the West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong districts about the upcoming rice distribution.

Following directives from both Central and State governments under the National Food Security Act, 2013, rice allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for the months of June, July, and August will be distributed in a single phase throughout June.

Card-holder families are instructed to collect their rice allocations for all three months during the ‘Anna Sewa Din’ scheduled for this month. Beneficiaries must provide their thumbprint on the e-POS machine three times—once for each month—and collect separate receipts for June, July, and August as proof of collection. Additionally, the department has indicated that the next distribution phase, set for September, will follow the established schedule.

Fair price shop owners are required to commence the distribution process only after confirming three successful thumbprint scans corresponding to the three months. They are also responsible for ensuring that beneficiaries are aware of the distribution schedule and prominently displaying notices regarding the distribution in front of their shops.

The department has requested the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and transparent distribution process, as stated in an official press release.
