Kapil Dev Discusses PGTI and IPL Broadcast Suspension in Bangladesh
Kapil Dev Addresses PGTI and Bangladeshi Golfers
On Monday, Kapil Dev, the renowned Indian cricket icon and President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), stated that there has been no discussion regarding the inclusion of Bangladeshi golfers in PGTI tournaments. He mentioned, "We haven't talked. We will convene as a board and discuss this matter further."
During a press interaction, Kapil emphasized that various sports are striving to replicate the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He remarked, "Observing the IPL's success in cricket, other sports are also aiming to establish their leagues with similar achievements... Our goal is to provide players with more opportunities."
Established in September 2006, PGTI currently boasts over 300 members and operates under a governing board that includes prominent Indian golf professionals, distinguished figures, and corporate supporters. The primary aim of PGTI is to advance professional golf in India and enhance competitive playing opportunities for its members.
Kapil Dev, a former Indian cricket captain, assumed the presidency of PGTI in June 2024, taking over from Srinivasan H R, who held the position since January 2023.
Bangladesh Halts IPL Broadcast
In a related development, the Bangladesh government announced on Monday the suspension of the broadcast of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches within the country. This decision came after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from their team.
This situation arose following KKR's announcement that they had removed the Bangladeshi player Rahman from their IPL 2026 lineup, in compliance with a directive from the BCCI concerning reported atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh.
"Given these circumstances, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has communicated through an official letter that, until further notice, all IPL matches and related broadcasts will be suspended in Bangladesh," stated the Press Information Department (PID) on Monday.
