Kanhaiya Kumar Accuses Assam CM of Corruption Amid Political Tensions
Kanhaiya Kumar's Allegations Against Assam's Chief Minister
Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has leveled serious accusations against Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming corruption and thuggery, while also criticizing the ruling BJP government in the state. During a rally in Bongaigaon, Assam, Kumar indirectly targeted Union Minister Amit Shah, urging voters to expel infiltrators from Gujarat. He stated that upon his arrival, a journalist informed him that infiltration was a significant issue in the region. Kumar remarked that the biggest infiltrator hails from Gujarat and should be removed alongside Himanta Biswa Sarma. Although this speech was delivered earlier in the week, a video of it has recently gone viral.
Further Criticism of the BJP
Kumar pointedly referred to Amit Shah, asserting that all corrupt individuals have joined the BJP, labeling the Home Minister as the 'leader of thieves.' He also criticized the state government for corruption and the exodus of residents. Kumar warned that if Himanta Biswa Sarma remains Chief Minister after the assembly election results on May 4, Assam could face a situation similar to that of Manipur. In response to Kumar's remarks, fellow Congress leader Tariq Anwar mentioned that he had not heard Kumar's comments but acknowledged that there must be a reason behind them, suggesting that they were not unfounded.
Controversy Following Previous Remarks
Kumar's comments come in the wake of controversial statements made by the Congress President during a rally in Kerala, where he referred to the people of Gujarat as 'uneducated' and claimed they were misled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following backlash, the Congress President later issued an apology for his remarks. At a rally in Idukki, he emphasized that the people of Kerala would not be swayed by either Prime Minister Modi or Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
