Kangana Ranaut Faces Backlash for Insensitive Remarks During Flood Relief Visit

Controversy Arises Over Kangana Ranaut's Comments

Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut is under fire for her remarks made during a visit to flood-affected areas in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. While addressing disaster relief efforts in her constituency, she jokingly stated that she lacks an official cabinet to provide disaster relief. Ranaut remarked, 'Whether it’s disaster relief or the disaster itself, I have no official cabinet. I have my two brothers who are always with me. That is my cabinet. So, it’s just these two. I don’t have any funds for disaster relief or a cabinet position. The work of MPs is limited to Parliament. We are very small in planning things.'

Despite her comments, she assured the public of her efforts to secure assistance from the central government for disaster relief funds. She noted, 'Our central government has conducted numerous military rescue operations. You must have seen how many people have been rescued. Even today, we are receiving food and shelter in every way. Additionally, our party leaders have formed a team in the affected area. We have come here as part of that team. The main job of MPs is to obtain funds from the center and convey their message. I will do this work to the best of my ability.'

In response, Himachal Minister Vikramaditya Singh took to Facebook to express that one does not need a position to help others. He emphasized that determination is essential, regardless of having a cabinet. Singh further lamented the trivialization of such a serious issue. Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized Ranaut's comments as highly insensitive, especially given her laughter during the statement. He questioned her role as an MP, stating, 'If a ruling party MP claims she has no power to intervene and provide relief in her constituency, then why is she there? Shouldn’t she resign?'
