In a statement that could ignite tensions between the elected officials and bureaucrats in Himachal Pradesh, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has pointed fingers at the Mandi district administration for allegedly hindering development initiatives in her constituency.
During a public gathering in Karsog, the MP did not hold back in her criticism of the Congress-led government. She specifically targeted Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan, claiming that substantial funds allocated through her Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund are stuck in the Deputy Commissioner’s office instead of being utilized for urgent community needs.
Kangana asserted that despite the availability of funds for various development and disaster recovery projects, the district administration has failed to advance proposals, leading to unnecessary delays in public works.
She stated, “There is no shortage of funds. The money has been approved. The real issue lies within the administrative framework, which is obstructing progress in development,” accusing officials of neglecting the issues raised by elected representatives.
In one of her most pointed criticisms of the bureaucracy, the BJP MP claimed that officials under the current Congress administration have become “unresponsive” and are disregarding the input from public representatives. She noted that her repeated attempts to follow up have resulted in minimal responses, leaving approved projects stalled while citizens await essential development.
These comments have heightened the political conversation in Himachal Pradesh, shifting the narrative from a simple government-opposition clash to serious inquiries regarding bureaucratic responsibility. By naming the Mandi Deputy Commissioner, Kangana has placed the district administration's operations under political examination.
If her claims are validated, they prompt troubling questions: Why are allocated public funds not being utilized? What procedural barriers, if any, are obstructing their release? And if there are no legal issues, who is accountable for the delays?
Kangana further accused the Sukhu-led Congress government of leveraging political controversies to distract from what she termed administrative stagnation, arguing that the lack of bureaucratic cooperation is compromising development in her area.
The Congress government and the Mandi district administration have yet to respond to these allegations. However, the MP’s direct confrontation with the Deputy Commissioner is expected to escalate discussions regarding the bureaucracy's role and accountability in executing development projects in Himachal Pradesh.
