Kamal Haasan's Stance on Controversial Comments

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan stated on Friday that he will not apologize unless he is proven wrong. This declaration came during a promotional event for his latest film, 'Thug Life,' in Chennai, amidst controversy surrounding his comment that "Kannada is born from Tamil." Haasan emphasized, "If I am wrong, I will apologize. If I am not wrong, I will not apologize. This is my way of life; please do not interfere with it." He further asserted, "India is a democratic nation, and I have faith in law and justice."

Background of the Controversy

The controversy erupted after Haasan was nominated by the DMK for a seat in the Rajya Sabha, which allocated a seat to his party, MNM. He clarified that his comments were made with affection, stating, "Love never asks for forgiveness." Speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, he remarked that those creating a fuss over his statements are complicating the issue. He added, "What I said was out of love, and many historians have taught me the language of history; I meant no offense."

Legal Actions and Reactions

The 70-year-old actor's remarks led to a complaint being filed against him by the Kannada protection group, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, with the Bengaluru police. The group, led by Praveen Shetty, has also demanded an FIR against the actor-politician for his comments, seeking legal action at the RT Nagar police station.
