KK Hooda, a Dronacharya Award-winning coach, along with kabaddi player Rajesh Narwal, expressed their support for the upcoming second season of the Kabaddi Champions League (KCL). They emphasized the league's significant role in nurturing young kabaddi talent in Haryana.
Announcement of Season 2
On Monday, the KCL officially unveiled its second season, promising an enhanced and more competitive experience. Following the success of its inaugural season, the league has introduced two new franchises: Jind Jaguars and Kurukshetra Knights. This expansion aims to strengthen the league's franchise network and provide a broader platform for emerging players.
Aiming for Excellence
During the announcement event, coach KK Hooda remarked that the second season aims to build upon the achievements of the first. He stated, "While I can't claim it's the largest league in India, it is set to become the premier state-level league. The dedication of our owners, franchise members, and league officials is commendable, and we hope to see significant growth this season."
Hooda also highlighted the importance of offering junior players a chance to compete at higher levels, stating that the upcoming season will serve as a platform for them to showcase their skills.
Expanding Opportunities for Young Players
Rajesh Narwal, the KCL brand ambassador, emphasized Haryana's deep-rooted connection with kabaddi. He noted that the addition of two new teams would further enhance opportunities for young athletes in the region. "With the first season featuring eight teams, the inclusion of two more reflects Haryana's passion for kabaddi. The KCL serves as an excellent platform to inspire youth and promote the sport," he remarked.
KCL's Impact on National Team
The KCL has made a significant contribution to Indian kabaddi, with nine out of twelve players selected for the Indian team at the 2026 Asian Games having emerged from the KCL ecosystem. Notable players include Sunil Malik from Karnal Kings and Ayan Lauchab from Sonipat Stars.
Hooda expressed his pride in the Indian Kabaddi team, hoping they secure a gold medal at the Asian Games, highlighting the league's role in developing top talent.
New Franchise Owner's Insights
Sanchit Garg, the owner of Kurukshetra Knights, shared his journey to owning a team. Encouraged by a friend from Sonipat Stars, he became interested in the league after closely following its first season. He chose the name Kurukshetra Knights to honor his father's ancestral roots, which added emotional significance to his decision.
